HOW DID THEY DO THAT???

I was watching “Future Weapons” the other night. They were talking about the 3D radar technology that is used on the Predator UAV. Amazing ! They can see the bad guy and also footprints of the bad guy. Then I saw the new FURUNO 3D NAVNET system and I wondered could that be the same thing. It is certainly based on that technology and of course it is missing the top secret enhancements. But it is worlds above the present technology that Commercial Radar has at present. Furuno has always been the top of the line. It has a big price tag also. But look what you get for the buck. A radar that the simple guy like me can understand.  You will have to get the whole ball of wax. You will need the new Dome or Array. How much is it? you will have to call me. 1-800-514-5571. The price is Top Secret.  By the way, these units are just being released and are on pre-order status. Reserve yours now for Xmas!

Let’s look at the specs from Furuno:

The world of onboard navigation systems has evolved. Furunos dedication to deliver the best marine electronics has led to the most innovative, powerful solution for onboard navigation ever.
Furunos NavNet 3D is a groundbreaking new navigation system that breathes new life into the user interface. Once you start using NavNet 3D, you will be amazed at how a system so powerful can be so simple to use. NavNet 3D comes fully loaded with groundbreaking new features that will expand your navigational horizons.

NavNet 3D uses a cutting-edge technology weve named “Time Zero.” Time Zero facilitates instant chart redraw, allowing for zooming in and out, changing chart display modes and other chart handling functions seamlessly and with no lag at all. Time Zero brings you a truly seamless navigation environment you have to experience to believe.

True 3D environment for a more instinctive chart presentation.
NavNet 3D incorporates a whole new dimension into chart presentation with Full Time 3D chart rendering. You can choose a 2D top-down view of the navigation chart for a look and feel that duplicates a traditional chart plotting presentation. Or, you can choose to pan and zoom the chart to any angle at any range scale you choose instantly. There is no 3D mode to change into and no waiting at all, because NavNet 3D operates in this 3D environment full time. This variety of chart presentations helps to improve your situational awareness by giving you unprecedented control over your charting environment.

NavNet 3Ds powerful new graphic engine brings new chart presentation options to the conventional 2D method of chart plotting. Satellite Photo Fusion is a powerful new tool, a hybrid blend of detailed satellite imagery and critical chart data. These new presentation options allow you to visually grasp your exact position in a way that was never before possible.

NavNet 3D incorporates native 3D chart architecture that allows for a full-time 3-dimensional presentation, as opposed to 2D charts that require special effects to appear 3D. There are no special modes; that limit your ability to navigate the way you want. With NavNet 3Ds true 3D environment, you can see all of the information you want with no limitations on what information you wish to view. Plan your routes and enter waypoints directly on your raster or vector native 3D charts. Radar overlay, Sirius Network Weather Receiver, AIS, plus all of your chart symbols and depth soundings; any and all of this information can be displayed at will. This is the beauty of navigating in true 3D. You have full control over the presentation all of the time.

Satellite Photo Fusion.
Satellite photography can be fused with raster or vector chart information. Land areas (zero depth) are completely opaque, so that these areas are displayed as satellite photos on the chart. As the depth increases, the satellite photography becomes more transparent so that you will know where the shallows end and the deeper water starts.

High resolution satellite photography aids in seabed classification so that you will be able to easily identify areas of sand, rock, coral or other obstructions.

Time Zero Technology Makes Chart Redraw A Thing Of The Past
High-speed processing and a powerful graphic engine deliver Time Zero technology instant, seamless chart handling with no lag or loading time. NavNet 3D Time Zero technology redefines the meaning of stress-free operation. Zoom seamlessly and continuously to whatever chart scale you desire. Instead of limiting you to a small handful of chart scales to choose from, Time Zero architecture allows you to zoom in or out to the exact magnification level you like without steps or limitations.

You can freely pan and scroll the chart by simply pressing the scroll pad. This gives you freedom to explore the chart data, allowing you to focus on a specific area ahead of or around your vessel without losing track of your position on the chart. Explore the chart data at your leisure, and then instantly return to your own ship at the touch of a single dedicated button.

FURUNO NavNet 3D Digital Solution sets a new standard.
NavNet 3D operates in a fully digital environment with its highly sensitive digital sensors for radar and fish finder. The operating structure is also digitized, delivering total fusion of hardware and software modules in its operating scheme.

NavNet 3D integrates Ultra High Definition (UHD) Digital Radar that facilitates fully automatic, high-precision Gain, Sea/Rain Clutter and Tuning control for hands-free operation and ultimate performance. UHD offers crystal clear, noise-free target presentation with automatic real-time digital signal processing. Antenna rotation speed (24/36/48 rpm) is automatically shifted appropriate to the pulse length. Commercial-grade radar performance is now available in the ultimate MFD navigation suite. One of the amazing features of Furuno UHD Digital Radar is Real Time dual range radar display, which scans and displays two different radar ranges with no lag at all. This greatly enhances your situational awareness.

You probably know about digital fish finders, but are not quite sure what the term really means. FURUNO Digital Filter fish finders feature advanced filtering capabilities and digital auto tuning which eliminate noise and deliver the ability to spot individual fish with clarity, accuracy and detail.

NavNet 3D ROTOKEY Puts a whole new spin in “User Friendly.”
NavNet 3D challenges the conventional menu operating system with a whole new concept, the ROTOKEY on-screen revolving menu key. One turn of the Rotokey gives you instant access to full control of NavNet 3D. The Rotokey is designed as a part of NavNet 3Ds scaleable operating system; a short press of the Rotokey gives you access to a user-selected set of the basic functions that you will use the most, while a longer press of the key displays all of the functions available. Never leave your navigation screen to enter a menu again!

NavNet 3D provides the easiest user interface on the market with a combination of both Rotokey and familiar point-and-click cursor pad controls. The power of the point-and-click interface allows for incredibly simple operation click anywhere on the screen for context-sensitive options for that area. Click on any data box to access detailed information for that function. You can also connect a generic USB mouse to further simplify operation.

One press of the Disp button allows you to easily select the presentation you desire. Five intelligently designed hot-pages are available to you right out of the box, with the ability to save up to ten custom layouts.

The scrolling pad allows independent scrolling and panning capabilities from a dedicated omni-pad. Pan the chart and shift the radar without any screen redraw or lag. You can also control IP cameras without accessing complicated menus or changing your current presentation.

One long press of the 3D key will toggle the chart from 3D to a familiar 2D, top-down perspective. While the chart remains in its native 3D environment, only the perspective shifts there is no special mode required to shift back to 3D perspective.

Chart scaling without limitation

Operate with Ethernet, NMEA0183 and NMEA2000®

Easiest user interface on the market

Fully digitized environment with add-on components

IS YOUR LIFE WORTH A $1,000?

As many orders I take from customers, for new fish finders, chartplotters and Radar, an order for EPIRBS, life vests, and life rafts seem to be few and far between.  I have been out on the oceans around florida, plenty of times. Do I have a raft. You betcha! In fact , I have one just like this, only older. vests are fine, but i have no desire to dangle my legs in the water with sharks or other beasties that might decide to come up and take a nibble.

So, consider this…….Most recreational vessels that sail the seven seas, can go under in less than 5 minutes!  Even if you have an EPIRB, which astoundingly most boaters do not, you can be in the water up to an hour waitng for the Coast Guard or somebody nice to come and fish you out.  We spend thousands on bells and whistles and nice high tech gadgets for the boat, but not a dime is spent on safety. Here are the specs on the raft pictured. I have all makes and models of Revere Rafts. They are the best and are made to order. They don’t store these up in the rafters, dry rotting until somebody buys them. SOLAS requirements don’t allow it. It will be ready to use , when you need it. The valise is about the size of a gym bag. Just pull the rip cord and toss overboard. deploys mid air and guaranteed to inflate right side up.

COASTAL COMPACT™
Ultra-Light, Ultra-Small!

Ideal for coastal boaters, the Coastal Compact bridges the gap between the lifejacket and a full-feature liferaft offering those travelling alone the smallest, lightest and most inexpensive raft available today. With double 200 lb. SuperRev™ ballast pockets, the Coastal Compact enhances stability in rough sea conditions. Its light weight allows for easy deployment and the compact size makes stowage easy in the smallest of spaces.

Operation is easy. Just open the red flap on the valise and extend the painterline. Give a hard pull and the raft inflates automatically in less than 30 seconds with Coastal Compact’s high-tech, self-contained CO2 inflation system.

Coastal Compact is not recommended for offshore use.

NavPod GP1061 Pre-cut Integrated NavPod On Power Mount Stanchion NAVPODS are weatherproof enclosures for your marine electronics. You know that real expensive raymarine you just bought from me!  I was just educated about Navpods about 2 weeks ago. A good customer of mine was re-fitting his ketch will all new Raymarine electronics and requested a Navpod.

Well, I had never heard of such a thing. I thought it was something to throw overboard and it transmitted data. But, of course I was wrong. While I was sourcing these navpods, I found out what they were. They are neat, weathertight enclosures that come in all shapes and sizes for all styles of GPS chartplotters,  scopes, and multifunction displays. Talk about a real professional installation that looks like it was manufactured with the boat, you got it. what better way to protect your investment. I have picked up the whole line of these Navpods.

IF ONLY THEY HAD AN ASTRO!

GARMIN ASTRO COMBO UNIT GPS BASED DOG TRACKING SYSTEM

Folks: Garmin has just released the Astro 220 Dog tracking Gps system. we all laughed when we heard about it. We are not laughing anymore. Who would want to track the family dog? It’s not for the family dog. It was designed for hunters who use dogs. Turns out the hunter spends more time looking for the dog than actually hunting. another is the aussie sheepherders you like to track their dogs and predict herd movements.  There are more serious applications for the system. One big one is Search and Rescue and the other is tracking K9 units in the field.

The unit works like this:   A dc 20 transmitter is attached to a special dog harness and the harness is attached to the dog.  the transmitter is activated.  The astro 220 unit is a receiver and also a GPS unit.   The unit points to the dog with a pointer on a compass screen or you can track the dog on the “map” page.  You can have both City navigator and the Topographic software loaded on the unit. So it is useful whether you are on the streets or in the bush.  The unit can be purchased “stand alone” without the DC 20 transmitter.  This would be useful for back up units Tracking the same dog.

Here are some actual events that would of had a different outcome had the technology been available at the time:

Lakeland,  Florida. 2007.. Officer down along with dog. Both shot to death. Back up units could not find them in time.

Had he had the astro on the dog, the back up team armed with their own Astro Stand alones could of found both in time to save there lives.

Detective Gene Prince of Hillsborough county Florida, relates this story to me: While in pursuit of a suspect in a high speed chase, Det. Prince caught up with the bad guy on some rural railroad tracks. The car was stuck on the tracks. The bad guy got out of the car and pointed a gun at Det Prince.  At the same time his fellow officer, a K-9 specialist, released his dog.  Detective Prince fired his weapon a shot the bad guy. the Very second that weapon fired the dog bolted.  It took 3 hours to find the dog.  Heres the bad thing.  the K-9 dog has two modes:  good dog and very bad dog.  This is controlled by the handler.  They switch them to bad dog mode, when they are chasing or attacking a bad guy.  the dog was lost for 3 hours in a very bad mood. If he had encountered somebody while wandering around, that person would of been visciously atacked and injured.  This would of opened up the department for a very big law suit.

So, if you’re a sheriff, and you want to protect your officers and your departemnt.  give me a call 1-800-514-5571.

I will show you how it works. You other guys, tell your sheriff about it.

MY EXPERIENCE ON THE GULF!!
Posted by: @ 4:06 pm

GARMIN GPSMAP 525S WITH DUAL FREQ WITH G2 VISION CARD OF YOUR CH

Guys: I just wanted to tell you of my experience with the new Garmin 525S combos on the gulf of mexico.

I had to find out what was so special about these new Garmins. you can only read so much on the websites, however there is not much data or testimony from the customers, as i don’t believe, that many have be purchased since there release. I think most were afraid of the new technology because it definitely not the price. Basic units, even with the $200+ vision card, is well in line with most other fishfinders on the market. I had to find out. So i installed one on the friends boat and Howie and myself went out to the gulf on the west coast of Florida. We went out of a place called Crystal River.  The channel is winding, shallow, and full of oyster bars. I also installed the G2 vision card for the west coast of Florida, which includes the Gulf of mexico, all the way to Texas. So we put the boat in the water and marked the home location so we can return. This is always the first thing you should do with a fishfinder gps. Also the night before, i took one of howies paper charts and loaded the Waypoints, where he said was the best fishing based on his 35 years of experience. Creating Waypoints is easy to do with the unit, once you get used to it. Pratice on dry land first. I punch the “where to?” on the screen and select ”buoy 28″ asnd we take off.  Howie is driving the boat. I’m playing with the finder, trying different things and screens.  I select “mariners eye view” and Holy Moly..I was sold American!!!. What is showed was a sort of helicopter view of the whole channel out to the first way point “buoy 28″…. It navigated us throught the many oyster bars and shallow areas. Also part of the screen showed us the depth reading. It is only 9-12 feet deep in that channel and alot of people have run a ground and ruined their day before they ever got started. Howie loved it.

So we clear the channel. I select “chart/Sonar” and I switch to another screen called “navigational charts”. this is on the same screen as mariners eye view. this gives you a split screen. Charts up the top and Sonar on the bottom with the depth reading, temp, mph, and heading.  As we progress, we noticed a white line that the plotter is showing behine the boat all the way back to the ramp. It’s a “trail of breadrumbs” so that on the way back, should we want to go back the way we came, we can do so safely.

We get to buoy 28 and there is only one boat tied up to the buoy. I switch to “fish eye view”. This is another feature that will only work if you have the vision card. See the vision card has all the bathymetric data on it and it shows you what the terrain under the boat is. It gives you a visual representation of the boat, the Transducer cone and the bottom and any structures underneath. I originally thought it would show you the fish, but no instrument other than an underwater camera can do that. And really that’s the sounders job. So, we get anchored off and start fishing. I switch to full screen sonar and rather than fool with interepting the floating arches of the sonar readings, I selct the “fish” symbol. Let the unit do it for you. After all ,its a $1000.00 set up. Let it earn its money.  WE saw a bunch of fish symbols going under the transducer cone.  The conical area as a rule is twice as wide in diameter and it is deep. We were 23 foot deep so the cone detection area would be 46 ft radius and either side of the center line of the beam. So  we are looking at approximately a 100 foot area behind the boat and a little underneath.

Well, do you think we could catch a fish? No of course not. I believe these things are spiritual and are up to God. They would not hit on anything.  The other fellas didn’t have any luck either.  The Gulf usually crystal clear, was all murky. you couldn’t see nothing. Sonar said there were tons of fish underneath. All we wants was 2 Cobia. Not in the cards.

So we pulled up anchor and headed off to our second waypoint known as the “morning star” wreck. WE selected the auto guidance and off we went, following the “purple line”.  Here am , Expecting this giant shipwreck.  It was just a small sunken 25 ft boat. Of course , Howie says you can usually look down and see it. But not today. Water is all cloudy. The “fish eye view” indicated a wreck and gave us a visual on it and of course the sonar did too.  And what else did the sonar do? Again a bunch of fish that we cannot catch.  Then the wind picks up fiercely. We are getting hammered. I am ready to blow lunch! Time to go home. Even though it was overcast, i am starting to feel the effects of being “burned at the stake”. So much for sun screen..

So i select auto guidance again and follow the purple line back into port. Then i selct ,at the inlet, mariners eye view back to the ramp.

So did the unit help us catch out quarry. No. that is still  up to the fisherman and the fish. Did it help us? Absolutely! It made it easy and safe to navigate.  so if you considering a Great unit, and you want to spend the money and not quibble about pennies ,

get one of these new units.  The way that they market and price these, is by what is preloaded in them. Some units have the xm radio and extra electronics,(who cares), but it is the basic g2 chart that is loaded in them. some have Coastal data, some have inland data. So you can’t use a coastal unit to fish the lakes. so pay attention if you are not going to invest in a g2 vision card, which i think is foolish not to. The G2 vision card is the great equalizer. Now you can use any one of these units to fish anywhere. And once you try g2 vision, you won’t go back to the preloaded chart. and if you do, You automatically lose 3 key features that make the unit what it is: Mariners eye view, Fish eye view, and auto guidance. Then you might as well go get some cheap one somewhere else.  Package deals with the g2 included start at $770 and up. And i am going to insist you get the g2 vision. There are many more of these combos on my site.   Take a look!

just some tips from your uncle bj.

thanx and be “efishent” with the new units
